USPS Package Intercept® is a service that allows you to stop the delivery of a package, letter, or flat that hasn't been delivered yet. This service is available for most domestic mailings with a tracking or extra services barcode, except for USPS Marketing Mail® and Periodicals. (usps.com)
How It Works:
- Verify Eligibility: Ensure your shipment is eligible for Package Intercept.
- Submit Request: Log in to your USPS.com account and submit your request online.
- Estimated Total: You'll receive an estimated total, including the intercept fee and any applicable postage.
- Attempt Intercept: USPS will attempt to intercept and redirect the shipment.
- Charges: If successful, your credit card will be charged the Package Intercept fee plus any applicable postage.
Redirect Options:
- Back to Sender: Return the item to the original sender.
- Hold for Pickup: Hold the item at the destination Post Office for pickup.
Fees and Postage:
- The Package Intercept fee is $17.50.
- All intercepted items are redirected as Priority Mail.
- You must pay the applicable Priority Mail postage, except when the item was originally sent using Priority Mail Express®, Priority Mail, or First-Class Mail®.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Eligible: Domestic USPS mail services with a USPS Tracking® or extra services barcode.
- Not Eligible: USPS Marketing Mail® products, Periodicals, items addressed to a Commercial Mailing Receiving Agency, items redirected to a PO Box™, nonmailable items, and items with surface-only transportation markings.
Please note that USPS Package Intercept is not a guaranteed service. The Postal Service will make every effort to locate the mailpiece and redirect it as requested; however, refunds are not available if the intercept is unsuccessful. (pi.usps.com)
